Please read ALL general guidelines below, and the individual category guidelines before submitting your work. 

2025 Echo Submissions will open from November 18th, 2024, to February 21st, 2025. Submissions cannot be entered after midnight on the final submission day. 

  • Reference: http://help.submittable.com/knowledgebase/articles/225218-how-do-i-submit for more in-depth instructions on how to submit. You will be required to make a free Submittable account beforehand. 
  • Do not include your name on any files submitted. This will ensure a fair review of your work. 
  • Only those currently enrolled in Furman University as a student may submit to The Echo. All other submissions will not be considered for publication.
  • The Echo uses one-time printing rights: after printing, all rights go back to the artist. This means that you will retain the copyright and ownership of all pieces that are submitted, even if they are published.
  • All entries will be considered for a chance to present at The Echo's Furman Engaged panel. 
  • The Echo is NOT open to any works that include Artificial Intelligence processes of any sort, including the generation of images, prose, poetry, art, etc. Any submissions that involve AI-generated content will be rejected. 
  • You may submit more than one work across categories. Please only submit your best work for review.
  • Submissions do NOT have to be related to or about Furman University.
  • By submitting your work, you agree to our right to correct minor grammatical and content errors if your piece is accepted for publication. You will be contacted by the Editor-in-Chief to approve any corrections that require review or clarification.
  • All works of art and writing are welcomed for consideration. However, excessive use of profane language and obscene content without a reason deemed appropriate by The Echo will not be considered for publication.
  • You will receive confirmation of your submission in an email directly following your completion of the submission form. We will notify you of the status of your submission approximately three weeks after the end of the submission period.
  • Please read the individual category guidelines before submitting your work. Category guidelines are available under each category below.

All submissions that do not fall within the categories of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, studio

art, or photography should be submitted under the miscellaneous category. Submissions

in this category might include costuming, collage, embroidery, crochet, etc

● For studio art and photography, all files must be submitted as .JPG, .TIFF, .PDF,

or .PNG formats. For studio art, ensure that the image of your artwork is clear and will

be able to be printed with high quality in the journal.

● If you are unable to take a quality picture of your studio art before the end of the

submission period, please include that in your note upon submitting, so that the quality

may not affect our review of your piece.

●Format your work in a word document for all fiction, non-fiction, and poetry pieces.

Works should be double spaced (see below for poetry) and typed in a legible font (12 pt.

Times New Roman is acceptable). Other fonts may be used if they serve a specific

purpose in the piece. Documents are only accepted in .DOC, .PDF, or .DOCX formats.


● Keep all works of non-fiction, fiction, and poetry under 3,000 words. Any works

submitted with a higher word count will only be considered for publication if space permits in the magazine
